UNDERRATED & UNDER THE RADAR: TEE VALENTINE

When it comes to consistency, look no further than Tee Valentine. The South London singer and rapper has been on the rise with a series of regular releases since 2021.

His 2023 EP Theory of Personality was my personal introduction to the artist who navigates the space between RnB and trap. The record features high-quality production complemented by Tee’s smooth vocals, which seamlessly blend singing and rapping.

The project explores the highs and lows of love, examining how this affects individual personality traits.  ‘Judgemental’ featuring Proph, stands out production-wise; both rappers display their lyrical strengths and effortless bars as they dissect the betrayals and frustrations within relationships. Meanwhile, ‘Smoke2Much’ is an essential trap track, where Leemz pairs perfectly and mirrors Tee’s melodic rap styles.

The Prelude EP continues his trajectory of melodic textures layered over trap rhythms, while pivoting towards RnB. ‘DO4LOVE’ is more of an upbeat, almost dance track. While ‘Know Yourself’ is influenced by Jhene Aiko’s ‘The Worst.’ It’s a catchy, trap-infused RnB track that explores the concept of finding yourself in someone else. Tee Valentine’s mellifluous vocals glide over the hard-hitting drums, a contrast that works effortlessly, creating a refreshing, almost atmospheric experience. It’s Tee Valentine’s consistency and his sharp understanding of what he does best. Rather than getting comfortable, he pushes his sound forward, solidifying himself as one of the scene’s most promising artists.
