UNDERRATED & UNDER THE RADAR: BBK VERSES

A list of underrated verses from the legendary grime group Boy Better Know

‘NO SECURITY’ (2017) - SKEPTA

‘No Security’ (2017) by Skepta was released on Halloween, a year after the hugely successful and culturally influential ‘Konnechiwa’ (2016) album. His achievements are clearly showcased as he proudly boasts about his consecutive Brit awards, rapping ‘at the awards, intoxicated/ the most nominated, and the dress code understated.’ Both the lyrics and visuals in the music videos feature a heavily stylised atmosphere, highlighting his cultural and stylistic impact. Additionally, the highly conceptual video includes several movie references sampling Malcolm X over a chilly synth line. The track continues Skepta’s signature flow and assertiveness while opting for a darker sound, which pays homage to grime’s origins.

‘FAMILY TREES’ (2025) - BBK

‘Family Trees’ (2025) is the latest track reuniting BBK and celebrating their status as legends in the game, while also dismantling the postcode wars that troubled the early days of grime. Over a classic up-tempo grime beat produced by JME, the veteran raps ‘all postcodes in the dance/ cause we gotta make ends meet.’ The double entendre highlights a sense of survival and the constant hustle needed. Alternatively, it’s a nod to grime’s growth and their ability to bring together all postcodes in one dance. The track showcases their lyrical strength; Shorty with his Lionel Messi bars and Frisco pulling off a triple film reference. All members deliver fierce verses, asserting their relevance as undisputed forces in black British popular culture.

‘CAPEECH’ (2023) - FRISCO ft. INFAMOUSISAK

Grime veteran Frisco teamed up with an emerging drill rapper, INFAMOUS IZAK on ‘Capeech’ (2023). Their back-to-back style on the track highlights their flawless chemistry and seamless fusion of grime and drill. Frisco’s classic confidence and wordplay elevate the track, being able to enter seamlessly and satisfy long-term fans. INFAMOUS ISAK takes on a similar style, taking note from his peer and paying homage to the hunger of the early grime days.
