UNDERRATED & UNDER THE RADAR: DOGHOUSE BY TRAVY AND ELZZZ
DOGHOUSE (2025) by Irish rappers Travy and Elzzz is a project filled with determination, distress and dignity as the duo assert their dominance in the Irish rap scene.
The sophomore project followed their debut mixtape Full Circle (2023), which quickly climbed to the top of the Irish album charts. However, it is not their chart successes in Ireland that make them a force to be reckoned with. It is their raw, relentless rap talent that pushes the Irish rap community into the mainstream conversation of modern hip-hop. The album extends beyond the rappers as individuals, beyond the “bond between two brothers,” instead, it embodies Irish culture and resilience.
Elzz defines DOGHOUSE as “the slang we used to describe tough times that shape you into the stronger version of yourself.” Starting with ‘30 Days and 30 Nights,’ the duo repeat ‘we’re coming in crazy, we’re coming in ruthless, we really gon do this,’ establishing the theme of perseverance as the backbone of the album. The track contrasts the sacrifices and grind it’s taken to get to where they are and an unwavering determination for their craft. It’s a bold, unapologetic chant that sets their intentions straight.
The album takes listeners on a journey through their personal and professional growth, exploring themes of love, work, and survival. On ‘Biometrics,’ TraviS and Elzz reflect on the trials and tribulations of their development, while also discussing toxicity and intimacy. ‘Notice Me’ is a hard-hitting, nearly psychedelic experience merging trap and rap. Elzzz’s thumping voice demands your attention and calls for recognition from the music industry. Meanwhile, Travy reiterates his confident, articulate rap style with a fierce cadence that dispels any doubt or setbacks.
‘3 AM in Doghouse,’ ‘Business & Pleasure,’ and ‘Blockbuster’ are immersive drill run, fused with road rap and pounding bass, showcasing the album's production. It offers a gripping, captivating experience, anchored by producer Liam Harris. Both rappers flow seamlessly in a fast-paced style, barely taking a breath. It’s pure rap talent on full display.
While flying the Irish flag high, the duo pay homage to their Nigerian roots on ‘Naij Blood.’ It’s a testament to their ancestral heritage and to their firm awareness of their regional identity. DOGHOUSE encapsulates the seismic evolution of Irish rap, with Travy and Elzzz among the most promising artists to keep an eye on.
